David Eugene Phillis

David Eugene Phillis (Doc), 65, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the Hospice House in Waterloo, Iowa. As per his request, there will be no visitation or service. His body will be cremated. David was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, on January 9, 1961, to the late Richard and Carol Phillis. He graduated from South Tama High School in 1979 and then served in the United States Army. David worked various jobs throughout his life and was last employed by Menards, Inc. He married Marilyn Eilers on September 25, 1993, in Grundy Center, Iowa, and they welcomed a son, Cory, on March 17, 1997. He loved to fish and play pool with his extended pool family. David touched so many people with his generosity and kindness and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Waterloo; his son, Cory of Crawfordville, Florida; three sisters, Pat Murphy of Tama, Penny Innis of Des Moines, and Mary Bland of Grimes; and one brother, Bernie Phillis of Vero Beach, Florida. David was preceded in death by his father; his stepmother, Betty Phillis; and his sister, Debra (Phillis) Cron.[more]
