Dorothy Wilmot

Dorothy F. Wilmot, 95, of Ames, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Westhaven Community in Boone, after a brief time in hospice. Funeral services for Dorothy Wilmot will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 3, 2025, at North Grand Christian Church, 919 30th Street, in Ames, with Pastor Mike Morton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will take place at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, Nebraska. Dorothy Frances (Case) Wilmot was born on September 25th, 1930, in rural Hamburg, Iowa. Her parents were Richard Dewey Case and Lela Merle (Simpson) Case. Dorothy joined three older brothers: Richard, Keith, and James. Family stories abound about the three boys and their little sister. Dorothy started school at Thurman, Iowa and attended several schools before graduating from Hamburg High School in 1948. After graduation, Dorothy attended Nebraska Christian College in Norfolk, Nebraska from 1948-1950. She met Owen B. , Jay Owen, and Neal Allen. Dorothy actively supported Owen throughout his pastoral ministry. They ministered to congregations in Palmer, Nebraska, Bayard, Nebraska, Cherokee, Iowa, Huron, South Dakota, Clarion, Iowa, and Blair, Nebraska. They also ministered to a small mission church, Whyte Avenue Christian Church, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from 1952-1954. Dorothy liked to joke that Owen checked out her potential pastor's wife qualifications before dating her - she could type bulletins and play the piano. Dorothy made their various homes a welcoming place for family, friends, and visitors. She and Owen hosted people from all over the country and around the world during their 42 years of ministry. One of Dorothy's great joys was to exchange Christmas cards with friends and family. She sent out over 100 letters each Christmas. Dorothy was in eighth grade when she began her first job as a housemaid. She took typing and shorthand in high school, which provided employment opportunities throughout her life. She worked at West Construction Company while in Edmonton. She retired from First National Bank in Blair, Nebraska in 1995, after 18 years as supervisor of their loan department. Dorothy and Owen then moved to Ames, Iowa, where they took an active role in their grandchildren's lives. In 2001, Dorothy began volunteering as secretary at North Grand Christian Church. Her volunteer work shortly turned into part-time employment. Dorothy retired for a second time in 2019 from her church secretary duties at age 89. She remained a well-loved member of the North Grand church community until her passing. Dorothy moved to The Rose Assisted Living Center in Ames in early 2020, just weeks before the Pandemic shutdown. Her final move was to Westhaven Community in Boone in 2024, where she made new friends and was cared for by friends, family, and the wonderful staff. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Owen, her parents, her brothers, and her two sons. She is survived by her daughter, Deb Anderson, son-in-law Ray Anderson, grandchildren David Owen Cameron, Jessica Cameron Griggs, and Ryan Anderson, her great-grandchildren Asa Cameron, and Geronimo Anderson, and her sister-in-law Shirley Meis, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
